    Description

I am selling a collection of antique jewelry and chatelaine items so please check out my other listings, some examples seen in the last photo.
    ABOUT:
Antique charivari hunting chatelaine charm or watch fob made of either a tooth or the tip of a horn or antler? set in a decorative pronged mount of solid silver.  Vintage to antique piece that I acquired in Europe, it has a loop to hang from a chain.  I am not sure exactly when it was made but it clearly has some age to it.
This came on a set, so I have a pair of these if more than one is desired, just send a note.
Although it may seem odd to us now, hair, teeth, claws and animal parts were very popular in Victoria times for use in jewelry.  This trend was popularized even more by Prince Albert who was born in Bavaria and an avid hunter, with his gifts to Queen Victorian often being made from wild game.  According to German tradition, animal teeth had talismanic properties and Albert used these hunting trophies as display of his love for Victoria.  They were also worn by hunters to decorate their charivari chains and as hunting trophies.   This is a very old Bavarian tradition and antique charms like this are hard to come by.
Please note that I love animals : ) but I see these antique pieces as part of history and worth preserving. When I showed my mom she said, "Ew." but hoping this interesting piece will find a home with someone who would enjoy it : )
    Chain not included.
    MEASUREMENTS:
The piece measures about 1 3/8 inch tall.
    MARKS:
Marked 800 on the loop for solid silver.
    IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
Please note that all my pieces are in estate condition.  A few discolored areas from age.  There are some stubborn tarnish spots on the flat top of the silver mount. Not really visible when worn on a chain because it faces upward.  The decorative prong work looks great with no bends and the perfect patina. Presents nicely (or should I say "interestingly" and still has plenty of years left.
But Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition.
I would be delighted if you'd follow me in my store.  Thanks for stopping by!
