Mint conditionAC-47 Spooky Gunship patch
. Also known as "Puff the Magic Dragon" and the "Dragonship".
The AC-47 was the first of the side-firing Gunships and the effort to make her operational was led by then Captain Ron Terry.
Airman John Levitow received the Medal of Honor for his actions that saved his AC-47, callsign "Spooky 71", when struck by an enemy mortar while supporting friendly ground forces over South Vietnam.
AC-47s saved over 4,000 friendly positions during the Vietnam War and no camp was ever overrun with an AC-47 overhead.
Started out as the FC-47 with the "F" standing for "Fighter" but went to "A" for "Attack" when fighter pilots complained.
An AC-47, called in by John Wayne (Col Kirby) to save a Special Forces camp, is featured prominently in John Wayne's 1968 movie "The Green Berets".
The AC-130U "Spooky II" is the larger, more capable USAF Gunship and is named in honor of the first "Spooky".
This is an exact reproduction of the patch given to AC-47 crews by General Electric (GE) during the Vietnam War. GE manufactured the AC-47's three mini-guns.
