Description
BE SURE TO VIEW ALL IMAGES AND READ FULL DESCRIPTION ON CONDITION OF ITEM.Lot Consists of an Original, Dual Cancelled, 1901 PAN AMERICAN Exposition Color Advertising Cover Printed for the SIKES CHAIR COMPANY, Buffalo, New York. Cover features a great color litho'ed image of a Standing Native American Indian with a Buffalo Head Shield in his right hand and his left hand stretched out in a welcoming gesture.
Cover has an Oval, "Sep 15, 1899" Buffalo cancellation on left side and an Oval "1901 Pan American Exposition" in cancellation bars in center. There is what appears to be an 1898 - 2 Cent Orange-Red Washington, Scott #279B Type IV, postage stamp affixed and lightly cancelled on right edge. Cancelled stamp appears to be from a horizontal top row of a booklet frame, but can't find it listed anywhere, so up to knowledgeable person to make the determination. Rear of cover has a Round, partial "Rome N.Y." cancellation on right side. Envelope is top cut and contents removed.
Color cover is approx. 3-3/4" High x 6-1/2" Wide. Cover has some light signs of handling on edges and corners and light overall toning, along with some spotting, heavier on rear. Cover has been file stored away for a very long time. Great piece of 1901 World's Fair / Exposition Memorabilia / U.S. Postal History. See Pics for More Details on Condition.
