    Description

HENRY FONDA * JANE ALEXANDER * LARRY GATES
    Autographed Playbill
    First Monday in October.
FIRST MONDAY IN OCTOBER opened in 1978 at the Majestic Theatre in New York. Alas, it opened during New York's newspaper strike. That is disastrous for plays and some of them never recover from opening in virtual anonymity. The play is about the (fictional) first female justice (JANE ALEXANDER) on the Supreme Court -- a conservative judge from California who butts heads with an Associate Justice played by HENRY FONDA. The New York Times managed a long-after-the-fact review. In assessing Mr.Fonda, the Times said "the steel in him shows. More than that. It glows, creates a light around it, gives off whatever heat and whatever humor the play needs to keep it moving and breathing....art from an artist." Actors sell off family members for notices like that. Playbill is in good condition. Interior pages have become detached from the covers. A date written top of yellow masthead. Pages are unnumbered and it's possible some are missing. Hard to tell. But all production information is present including title page, photographs and cast biographies. Mr Fonda has signed just under the masthead and Ms Alexander middle of page.
*The glass blob in upper right-hand corner of photo is a paperweight to hold the page down.
