    Description

!4k gold fine mesh purse/evening bag, likely from late 1800's (1890's) to early part of 1900's ( circa1900-1935). Very fine, small size ring mesh lady's fancy evening bag. It is all 14k gold with no gold plated or gold-filled components. The bag has no damage, pulls or picks on it on any loops of the mesh, or on any of the edges. It is a nice old, rich gold color. The total weight of the bag is 66 dwt., 102.7 gms. It measures 8" from the top of the closure, just below the sapphire, to the bottom of the tassel, at the bottom. It is 3 7/8" across from the bottom of one hinge to the bottom of the other hinge. The frame part at the top measures 2 5/8" from the top of the closure to the bottom of the frame at the hinge level. It has an adjustable loop type strap, that is 7" in length, and 3/8" wide, with a slide for adjusting to fit the user's wrist. The closure snap is set with a dark blue sapphire that measures 3mm in diameter. The tassel is approximately 1 1/8" from the point of attachment to its bottom beads. When laid flat and spread out at the bottom widest section, it is 5 1/2" wide. Inside, at the top, is a short length gold segment, approximately 1", with a spring ring loop on it, to attach a small compact, or mirror, or rouge and carry inside the bag and be at the top for easy access.
Inside the top of the frame, the piece is marked 14k, and carries a mark I cannot identify for the maker. I looks most like a reverse "C" with a straight object coming down across the open side, that is broader at the top and appears sharp at the bottom. Also, to the left of this are some scratched in marks, J 1-218, of the type jewelers apply to various work.
I have included pictures of all areas, especially both hinges to show that they are not damaged
