A FREEMASON AND KNIGHT TEMPLAR HIMSELF, CHARLES G. BRAXMAR WAS A MASTER JEWELER WHO CRAFTED SWORDS FOR ONLY A RELATIVE BRIEF PERIOD. A SOMEWHAT ECCENTRIC INDIVIDUAL, BRAXMAR KEPT THE "X" SILENT WHEN PRONOUNCING HIS NAME. FOR A SHORT TIME HE STYLIZED THE SPELLING TO READ AS "BRAEMAR". THIS BIZARRE ECCENTRICITY CAUSED SUBSEQUENT HISTORIANS TO MAKE INCORRECT ASSUMPTIONS ABOUT THE FIRM, WHICH IN REALITY WAS ALWAYS CORRECTLY NAMED "BRAXMAR". CHARLES G. BRAXMAR DIED IN 1914 AS A RESULT OF AN EXPLOSION IN HIS HARLEM RESIDENCE. HE SMELLED A GAS LEAK AND LIT A MATCH AND THAT WAS THAT! THE COMPANY CONTINUED TO EXIST FOR MANY YEARS THEREAFTER. CHANGING HANDS QUITE A FEW TIMES, IT FOLDED ONLY RECENTLY.

This is a Truly Impressive Historical Ornate Enamel and Golden Antique Masonic Knights Templar Multiple-Tier Jewel from from the 87th Triennial Conclave held in Rochester, New York in 1900 with participation of the Cyrene and Monroe Commanderies. There is so much to see here. There are scenes within scenes. Extremely Medieval Aura. The Jewel is quite beautiful. It is in very good vintage condition with only some normal expected minor wear. The ribbon on back is a bit frayed on top (is replaced or can backed with material). But the Jewel is excellent without any ribbon. Such exquisite work cannot remotely be replicated in our modern day. The intricacy of detail is awesome. It measures approximately 4½ inches in length. A PHENOMENAL ANTIQUE 1900 ORNATE EPIC MULTI-DIMENSIONAL & EPIC JEWEL!...A VERY ELABORATE, SYMBOLIC MASONIC MEDIEVAL COMPOSITION! SCENES WITHIN SCENES! While golden in color, there is no marking for gold content. Not being jewelers, we do not know if it there is actual gold here or if it is a sparkling golden color metal of some type. Either way, this is a great piece that is decorative, symbolic and historic. Incidentally, if the Jewel did have a marking for gold, the price would be way, way higher then what this is listed for. This item was made by the illustrious New York City based "Charles G. Braxmar" (1850-1914), one of the really great historical American Masonic Jewelers and Sword makers. He only made swords, belts and specific regalia for a limited period in time before resuming to specialize in jewelry, badges and other related items. Braxmar had an odd way of pronouncing his name. He kept the "X" silent. Because of this peculiarity, during one period, he decided to stylize the spelling of his name to appear as "Braemar". Due to this eccentricity, quite a few historic books mistakenly list a company called "C. G. Braemar", when in fact there never was such a company. It always was "C. G. BRAXMAR"! Braxmar swords equaled and sometimes even surpassed the works of “The Ames Sword Company”, “M. C. Lilley & Co”, “The Pettibone Bros” and “William Horstmann of Philadelphia”.
